Ordinary World: Sean lives in Orange county. He goes surfing all the time, has a girlfriend, parties, and has divorced but rich parents and an older brother who is on drugs.
Call to adventure: One of his three friends dies while trying to surf a giant wave.
Refusal of the call: Sean spends many hours on the beach thinking but doesn't know what to do.
Meeting with the mentor: Sean finds a book by B.J. Skinner in the sand and reads it. he falls in love with the book and reads it many times over the next month.
Crossing the Threshold: after the many emotional readings of the book he decides that he wants to become a writer. He sells his board and decides that he must get into Stanford if he wants to become a writer.
Tests, Allies, Enemies: His School Counselor sends in the wrong transcript and He doesn't get accepted to Stanford.
Approach:He has an interview with one of the guys in charge of Stanford but while it is going on his weird friends come in, his brother walks in in his underwear, his mom gets drunk, and his stepdad comes in with his head bleeding.
Ordeal:Sean, his brother, and his girlfriend drive to Stanford. They go to the admissions office but don't get what they need. His brother stays there while his girlfriend and him go to the Dean of admissions house.
Reward:They accidentaly get the Dean high and he is going to let Sean into Stanford
The Road Back: They drive back to the Admisions building and it is on fire.
Resurrection: Seans girlfriend leaves him for the night. He Finds out that His brother has burned down the SStanford Admissions building, but while walking around campus he meets B.J Skinner. Skinner tells him that he doesn't need Stanford to make him a good writer.
Return with Elixer: Seans dad gets him into stanford but he declines. He decides to stay in Orange County as a writer. He starts surfing with his friends. His parents get back together, and his girlfriend loves him again.
